Management for the Arts and Cultures

Overview

3 yrs
English, Italian
180 CFU

The BSc in Management for the Arts and Cultures combines a strong foundation in management and economics with a solid grounding in the arts and humanities.

Through an integrated, multidisciplinary curriculum, students learn how to understand and engage with artistic, cultural and creative practices; interpret the institutional, economic and legal frameworks within which they are developed; and apply the critical and managerial skills needed to design, govern and evaluate cultural and creative projects and organizations.

Students gain insight into a wide range of sectors and activities, including: artistic productions, museums, heritage and art markets; theater and performing arts; publishing; the music and movie industries; screen arts and media; and fashion, design, communication and urban development.

The program's multidisciplinary approach and international outlook, as well as its emphasis on project-based learning, foster intellectual agility, critical thinking and strong analytical and interpersonal skills. By encouraging students to connect and apply perspectives from different disciplines, the program prepares them for careers in cultural organizations and creative industries. More broadly, it equips them to thrive in any professional environment defined by rapid innovation, technological change and cultural diversity.

The program is offered entirely in English.

Program Director

Stefania Gerevini

The BSc in Management for the Arts and Cultures is built around the idea of managing and imagining: it approaches management as a cultural practice, and the arts and humanities as sources of critical understanding and agents of transformation.

Providing strong foundations in economics, management and quantitative methods, as well as a solid grounding in the arts and humanities, we challenge our students to address difficult questions and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to address them. These questions include: Who owns cultural work? What are the interactions between artistic practices, cultural heritage and civic communities? How do generative technologies shape cultural productions? How do algorithms inform what is seen, valued and remembered? What happens to cultural diversity when global platforms mediate local creativity? How can cultural and creative organizations use data and technology without losing sight of artistic autonomy, public value and human judgement? In what ways can we build cultural organizations that are both sustainable and equitable? How can we assess the quality of artistic projects?

Our graduates are specifically qualified to work in the cultural, artistic and creative sectors — environments that are highly dynamic and international — and are especially well equipped to thrive in any context where openness to, and appreciation of, diverse cultural and professional perspectives serve as key drivers of innovation.
