ICDL Exams at Bocconi
ICDL
The ICDL certification consists of seven subject areas, divided into the following modules:
- Computer Essentials
- Online Essentials
- Word Processing
- Spreadsheets
- IT-Security / Cyber Security
- Presentation
- Online Collaboration
In order to obtain the certification, it is necessary to pass one exam for each of the seven modules. The order in which the exams are taken is completely flexible.
The certification program is based on the official ICDL syllabus, available here.
Bocconi University is an accredited ICDL Test Center for its students. Please note that registrations from external (non-Bocconi) applicants are currently not accepted.
Follow the steps below to apply for the exams and obtain your certification.
1. Purchase the ICDL Skills Card and exams
In order to take ICDL exams, students must possess an ICDL Skills Card. This is a virtual card with no expiration date on which all completed ICDL exams are recorded.
The Skills Card must be purchased online through the “Buy Products” link available in the “IT Certifications” box of the student’s yoU@B Diary. Its special price for Bocconi students is € 60.
In addition to the Skills Card, students must purchase the seven exams through the same procedure. The special price for Bocconi students is € 18 per exam.
The Skills Card is sent to the student's Bocconi email address within two working days of the online purchase.
2 . Registering for exams
How to Register, Modify or Cancel an Exam Registration
Once the Skills Card and exams have been purchased, students may register for ICDL exams through their yoU@B Diary by clicking on “Register for ICDL Exams at Bocconi” in the “IT Certifications” box.
At first access, students will be asked to enter their Skills Card number (7 digits), which is provided by ITEC via e-mail to their Bocconi email address.
To start the registration process, click “Add”.
On the following screen, students may select the ICDL modules they wish to take, provided that the number of selected modules does not exceed the number of purchased exams available (displayed as “Available Exams”).
The system will display the available dates and time slots for the selected modules, taking into account:
- the number of modules selected;
- the exam sessions scheduled during the four weeks following the registration date.
Students may then choose their preferred date and time, subject to seat availability.
If a specific session cannot be selected, it means that all available places for that session have already been booked. In this case, students must choose another available session or wait until the following week's sessions are published.
After registering, students may modify their booking (by changing either the selected modules or the number of modules):
- If the number of modules remains unchanged, the original exam date and time slot may be retained.
- If the number of modules changes, the existing booking will be automatically cancelled and the system will propose new dates and time slots compatible with the updated number of selected modules.
Students who no longer wish to attend a booked session may cancel their registration.
Any purchased exams associated with the cancelled booking will automatically become available again and may be used for a future registration.
Important: registrations, modifications and cancellations are permitted only until 11:59 PM on the Thursday of the week preceding the exam date. After this deadline, no changes can be made to the booking.
Request Accommodations for ICDL exams
Students who wish to benefit from extra time or other compensatory measures during ICDL exams must submit a specific request at least 12 days before the date of the first module they intend to take.
The request must be made by completing the QA-ESAMOD17 form, available on the ASPHI website, following the instructions available online.
Once completed, the form must be sent to ITEC via the B in Touch procedure available in the yoU@B Diary, together with a copy of a valid identity document.
With regard to extra time, students are required to notify ITEC each time they register for a new exam session, so that the additional time can be properly assigned.
Failure to comply with the deadlines and procedures described above may prevent the requested accommodations from being activated.
3. Preparing for ICDL exams
Multimedia preparation course
An online multimedia course is provided by Bocconi University to get prepared for the ICDL certification. The course is available for all Bocconi students on Blackboard (both in English and Italian) without any time limits or restrictions. An update of the multimedia course to Syllabus 6.0 for Word processing, Spreadsheets and Presentation modules is available from December 12, 2018.

Exams at Bocconi
ICDL exams are held in person in the computer labs of the IT Education Center (Room 304 or Lab 2), located at Via Gobbi 5, 3rd floor.
Candidates must arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of their exam session. In the event of a late arrival, the exam supervisor may refuse admission to the session.
To take an exam, candidates must present one of the following valid identification documents:
- Bocconi University student card;
- National identity card;
- Driving licence;
- Passport.
Candidates who fail to present a valid identification document will not be admitted to the exam.
A few hours after completing an exam session, candidates will be able to view their results through the AICA portal (after registration).
If a module is not passed, or if the candidate is absent from a booked session, the module must be booked again by purchasing a new exam and registering for a future session, starting from the day following the exam date.
If, instead, the registration is cancelled within the established deadlines, the purchased exam will become available again and may be used for a future booking.
Upcoming exam dates at Bocconi will be:
June: 3, 4, 11, 16, 24
July: 1, 8, 15, 23
5. Checking ICDL exam results
Candidates may view the results of their ICDL exams a few hours after completing the test through their personal area on the AICA portal (registration required).
To access the personal area:
- Go to www.aicanet.it (available in Italian only).
- Click “REGISTER” in the upper-right corner.
- On the next page:
- select “Register as Candidate”;
- choose “ICDL” from the certification drop-down menu.
In the “Skills Card Code” field, enter only the numerical part of your Skills Card number, without the IT- prefix.
If you experience difficulties accessing your personal area, you may contact the AICA support team at diplomi@aicanet.it.
6. Obtaining the prerequisite for curricular exams
Once all seven ICDL modules have been successfully completed, the certification will satisfy the prerequisite required for the following Bocconi courses: Computer science (30424), Informatica per giurisprudenza (50019/6034), Legal tech (30625), Computer skills for economics (30068/6033) and Computer skills (30330) exams.
Failure to obtain the prerequisite by the deadlines indicated on the relevant webpage will make it impossible to register for the corresponding curricular exam.
Important Notice
Starting from the 2026–2027 academic year, newly enrolled students will no longer be required to obtain the ICDL certification as a prerequisite.
This change also applies to students currently enrolled in the first year (cohort 2025–2026) of the Master of Arts in Law and BGL programs, for whom the courses "Informatica per Giurisprudenza" and "Legal Tech" are scheduled during the second year of study.
7. Obtaining the ICDL certificate
Once all seven modules have been passed, the IT Education Center will send the official ICDL certificate in PDF format directly to the student's Bocconi email address.
The certificate is generally issued within one month of passing the final module.
Please note that it is not necessary to wait for the certificate to be issued in order for the certification to be registered as a prerequisite for curricular exams.
In addition, certificates may be viewed and downloaded independently through the candidate's personal area on the AICA portal.
