Entrepreneurs and Managers

Two fundamental actors of the contemporary economic scene, entrepreneurs and managers are often viewed as two polarities. The central role of big business in most economies of the past century has rendered critical both the entrepreneurs and the managers different functions. Entrepreneurship, its innovative role, its willingness to bet on the future is of crucial importance to business but so too is management. In the final analysis, it seems that the success and failure of entire national systems may be dependent on the right balance between the two polarities.
The colloquium is structured in two parts. The first will focus on general issues based on distinct portraits of the two "characters" considered in their multifaceted articulations. The second part will investigate area patterns starting with the United States, then Europe and finally Japan.
