MEMIT Students Move Full Tilt Towards the Job Market

, by Elisa Bazzani
The visit to the FCA plant in Turin was an occasion to put the teaching learnt during the course to the test

On 16 April the students of MEMIT (MA in Economia e management dei trasporti, della logistica e delle infrastrutture – Economics and Management of Transport, Logistics and Infrastructure) visited the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles plant in Grugliasco (Turin), where they had the chance to see first-hand the management of logistics and production in the automotive sector. The students got in touch directly with Claudio Filipponi (Plant Logistic Manager) and Francesco Vinto (Maserati Supply Chain Manager) and showed a good command of industrial management theories learnt in the classroom by fruitfully interacting with the company management, only 2 months after the course started. Until last year, MEMIT students used to visit the historical Maserati quarters in Modena, but the decision has now been made in 2015 to opt for the plant in Grugliasco, characterized by a higher production capacity and stronger vertical integration.

The Master's degree, designed to equip graduates with professional management and planning skills in the areas of transport, infrastructures and logistics, is strongly oriented towards interaction with companies. Along with traditional lectures and business case studies and simulations, occasions of direct contact with large industrial groups are manifold: "This year's course has already hosted the interventions of Costa Crociere and Daikin managers. Meetings with businesses are at the core of this MA" explains Giuseppe Stabilini, lecturer of Operations Management and Supply Chain Management. "It is crucial that students have the possibility to implement the management tools they learned during the course. Putting critical thinking skills into practice from the outset is the best way to prepare for the labour market." Indeed, the strategy seems to be effective, if one takes into account that during the visit of 16 April Maserati managers were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the students' interventions.
