The interactive project shows how research can be effectively combined with collective responsibility to overcome one of the great challenges of our time

On February 4, World Cancer Day draws global attention to one of the most complex challenges of our time: cancer. Promoted by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), World Cancer Day prompts institutions, communities and ordinary citizens to turn awareness into action, focusing on people and their unique experiences, as summarized by the 2025-2027 theme “United by Unique”.

This international context is the backdrop for Care to Action – Connecting Solutions for Beating Cancer, an initiative by Bocconi University available in Italian and English that addresses cancer not only as a medical fact but also as a social, economic, and cultural one. Starting from the simple and universal observation that sooner or later cancer affects everyone, even if not necessarily as patients, Bocconi offers an interactive journey that integrates research, policy, education, and collective responsibility, alongside indispensable medical and clinical research.

Care to Action illustrates the entire cancer journey, from prevention to diagnosis and treatment, through to follow-up and rehabilitation, emphasizing how each stage requires informed decisions, equitable healthcare systems, and solid health literacy. This is where the role of university clearly stands out: not only to produce knowledge, but to connect skills, data, and people to generate concrete and sustainable solutions.

Bocconi's commitment fully embraces the objectives of World Cancer Day: reducing inequalities, improving access to care, and promoting a vision of cancer that combines scientific innovation with the human dimension. Care to Action is an example of how academia can actively contribute to the battle against cancer, turning research into impact and awareness into shared action.
