Elena Carletti Wins an ERC Advanced Grant

, by Andrea Costa
The INFINITY project will study the origins of financial fragility and the role of regulation and supervision in preventing new crises

After the four Starting Grants announced in recent days by the European Research Council, Bocconi University has been awarded a new ERC Advanced Grant with the INFINITY - The Origins of FINancial FragilITY project, led by Elena Carletti, Dean for Research and professor of Finance. The grant, worth about 2.3 million euros and spanning five years, is hosted by the Baffi Centre on Economics, Finance and Regulation.

The project addresses a crucial issue for global economic stability: the causes and dynamics of financial fragility. Through three strands of research (the theory of bank runs, the role of deregulation and the effectiveness of bank supervision) INFINITY aims to provide new insight aiming at understanding and preventing crises such as those that have hit the United States and Europe in recent decades.

For Bocconi, this grant represents an achievement that strengthens the university's international reputation as a hub of research excellence in economics and finance, confirms the competitiveness of its researchers on the European scene, and creates new opportunities for young scholars involved in the project. In addition, the project will provide scientifically based tools for regulators and financial institutions to strengthen market stability.

With INFINITY, Bocconi consolidates its role as a leading player in the international scientific community and in the discussion on regulatory and banking supervisory reforms, with significant impacts on the European debate as well.
