Geopolitics Lab: Understanding the world around you
No American President – not F.D. Roosevelt, not Ronald Reagan – has defined his time in office as much as Donald Trump in less than a year. With both friends and foes, not only is Trump influencing international dynamics but also our daily life and the expectations on the future. With the unrivaled power of the United States as a shield, he unscrupulously uses weapons largely unusual in the diplomatic realm: tariffs, social and traditional media like a torrent in full flood , resounding unproven successes and blatant fake news.
Content and objectives
Our discussion will focus on four topics:
- The Imperial Presidency - MAGA's Foreign Policy
- Europe and NATO – The inconvenient allies
- China – The Dear Enemy
- “These Truth” – The Imperiled American Democracy
The approach will be more journalistic than academic. Students are invited to participate actively in the course, whether in the form of answering the questions, interrupting with their own questions, or engaging in productive conversation, in order to:
- expand their knowledge on key geopolitical issues;
- develop their critical and analytical skills when reading the news;
- share their ideas and participate in active discussions.
