BLACK HOLES, GRAVITATIONAL WAVES, AND QUANTUM PHYSICS

Ten years after the discovery of gravitational waves, a new black hole merger reveals the presence of a higher harmonic in the ringdown of the final black hole. This discovery, beyond the fascination of demonstrating that spacetime vibrates like an instrument, opens up a great hope: the possibility of uncovering a quantum structure of gravity encoded in gravitational waves.
