With a New MSc Bocconi Says Public Affairs in English

, by Fabio Todesco
The Master of Science in Government and International Organizations, to start in September, was presented this morning. Good ideas do not have a language, but the international experience is important, said the director, Valentina Mele

National governments, international organizations, companies in regulated markets, the private sector interfacing with the public sector: these are the positions that will be covered, in a couple of years, by students from around the world who will choose to enroll in the new English MSc program, that Università Bocconi launches in the academic year 2015-16: the Master of science in Government and international organizations.

The director, Valentina Mele, presented this morning the MSc, calling it a graduate program "for students with a vocation for the public good, built on two main pillars: policy analysis and advanced management tools. With this program", she continued, "we want to educate graduates that can use management skills, on which Bocconi has a competitive advantage, in contexts where political dynamics are crucial, such as the public sector, international organizations, non-government organizations, healthcare, public utilities".

"When I talk to our students", Mele said, "I always find that many of them are motivated by the desire to make a contribution to the community. And among these there are also many foreigners who, until yesterday, could obtain this kind of education at Bocconi only if able to understand Italian". With the new program, though, their participation may increase, and Italian students will benefit from this "because", Mele said, "good ideas do not have a language, but the international experience is important".

The program will feature a strong international exposure, with double degrees with French, German and American universities and exchange programs with partner universities all around the world. There will also be frequent interaction with the world of the institutions, when possible through assignments by real organizations.

After one common year, students can choose a free studying plan or one of the four majors: international Organizations; public management and business-government relations; social enterprise and non-profit organizations; healthcare.

Students have time until 16 April to fill the online application form and take, on 24 April, the admission test.
