A Gym for Young Economists
Twenty minutes to present their own working papers, 5 minutes for a discussant and 5 minutes for the general discussion. These are the "rules of the game" at the EDGE Jamboree 2011, the conference of the European Doctoral Group in Economics, to be held at Bocconi on 10th and 11th September, 2011. "The Jamboree will give three of the more advanced Bocconi PhD candidates the chance to present and discuss their works in front of a qualified audience and two others to be the discussants for papers by other universities' candidates", Matthias Messner, the local organizer and Bocconi responsible for EDGE says.
EDGE is the network of six leading economics departments- Université de la Méditerranée (Aix-Marseille, France); University of Cambridge (Cambridge, U.K.); Københavns Universitet (Copenhagen, Denmark); University College Dublin (Dublin, Ireland); Università Bocconi (Milano, Italy); Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Munich, Germany) – which agreed to combine their strengths and strongly encourage their doctoral students to spend up to one academic year at one of the partner universities in order to complement their graduate education by taking specialized courses abroad. Furthermore, those students who already have a well-defined research project can collaborate with an expert in their field at one of the partner institutions.
Eliana La Ferrara will give the keynote speech on Social Norms, Kinship and Development, while the current director of the Economics doctoral programme, Massimo Marinacci, and a fomer one, Pierpaolo Battigalli, will be present.
Among the Bocconi students, Emiliano Catonini will present Non-Binding Agreements in Dynamic Games with Complete Information; Gunes Gokmen Clash of Civilizations: Impact of Culture on Militarized Interstate Dispute; Lara Lebedinski Equal Access to Education: An Evaluation of the Roma Teaching Assistant Programme in Serbia.
Maja Ferjancic and Weiwei Yin will discuss other candidates' papers.
