European Research Council: Bocconi first in Europe for Funded Projects in Economics, Finance and Management
Valentina Bosetti, associate professor at Bocconi, thanks to the RISICO project, Risk and uncertainty in developing and implementing climate change policies, has won one of the prestigious ERC starting grants 2013 obtaining a funding of 1 million 146 thousand euro. The projects (starting o advanced) in social sciences and humanities run by Bocconi and funded by theEuropean Research Council thus become 13, for a total of over 10 million euro.
If one tightens the field to the sole area of Economics, Finance and Management then Bocconi, with its 10 projects, is the European institution which manages the most number of research projects on a par with Toulouse School of Economics and ahead of University College London (8).
Furthermore, Bocconi is 7th in Europe if the perimeter is widened to all the 13 projects funded by the ERC in social sciences and humanities.
The ERC is an important component of the "Ideas" program of the EU's Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7) and has a budget of 7.5 million euro for the period 2007-13. The mission of ERC is to encourage research of the highest quality in Europe through competitive funding. ERC grants are awarded through open competition to projects headed by starting and established researchers, irrespective of their origins, who are working or moving to work in Europe. "The sole criterion for selection is scientific excellence," states the ERC website. "And it is for this reason that being at the top of this table is a recognition of the ability of Bocconi to attract top talents and conduct ground-breaking research in the social sciences," comments Tito Boeri, Vice-Rector for Research.
Valentina Bosetti thus joins the list of Bocconi academics who are principal investigators of projects funded by the ERC, which are Arnstein Aassve, Guido Alfani, Pierpaolo Battigalli, Maristella Botticini, Nicola Gennaioli, Eliana La Ferrara, Massimo Marinacci, Alessia Melegaro, Tommaso Monacelli, Marco Ottaviani, Fabrizio Perri, Guido Tabellini.
