"Corporate Governance", Zattoni co-edits a special issue

, by Fabio Todesco
And co-organizes a related international developmental workshop at SDA Bocconi

Alessandro Zattoni (SDA Bocconi and Università Parthenope) is among the guest editors of a special issue of Corporate Governance: An International Review and co-organizer of the related workshop Developing Corporate Governance Research through Qualitative Research, which will be held in the next days (23-24 September, 2011) at SDA Bocconi. Two special guests will participate to the workshop: Andrew Pettigrew, Said Business School, that will make a presentation on The Conduct of Qualitative Research in Organizational Settings and William Judge, Old Dominion University and editor of the journal.

"Corporate governance research displays contrasting research styles and traditions", Zattoni explains. "The dominant approach is quantitative, develops theoretical hypotheses typically informed by agency theory, and use archival and publicly available data to test input-output models on samples of large companies. A second approach is characterized by qualitative studies that explore real-life governance issues, use data collected through a direct interaction with key governance actors and describe current governance practices and processes. These studies are highly relevant but have often been criticized for not being rigorous enough. The challenge of the special issue is to develop qualitative research that is both relevant and methodologically rigorous".

In the past months nine papers have been selected after the first round of reviews. Authors of the nine papers are going to present their revised versions at the developmental workshop. After this event, the authors will be invited to revise and submit their papers again. After a final review by the guest editors (besides Zattoni, Terry McNulty from University of Liverpool and Thomas Douglas from Colorado State University's College of Business) and external reviewers, the best papers will be published in the special issue.
