Alberto Dondena Lecture: Japan As Seen By Ronald Rindfuss
In occasion of the annual appointment in memory of Alberto Dondena, the "Alberto Dondena Lecture", Ronald Rindfuss, professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina and member of the Carolina Population Center Faculty, will be guest in Bocconi (12 May, 5pm, in room AS01 in Via Rontgen).
During the conference "Social change and social networks: family and fertility change in Japan" Ronald Rindfuss will focus on social change in Japan in this era of 'social' communication. Social changes impact strongly also on the family and on perceptions of wellbeing, education and work. Japan has seen a revaluation of livingconditions in recent generations which, even if in many cases seem similar to those of the West, present strong tendencies to remain linked to tradition. Rindfuss will highlight the positive links which are developing, and which will be possible, between an 'innovative' lifestyle (for example with an increase in schooling, especially female) and traditional behavioral characteristics, but also the gap that occurs between the new generations geared to the new globalized mentality and the more traditional one, which is still deep-rooted.
