Two New Department Heads
As of February 1, 2026, two Bocconi departments have new heads. Sandro Castaldo has been appointed Director of the Department of Marketing, while Giuseppe Savaré becomes Director of the Department of Decision Sciences. The two appointments are part of the continuing effort to strengthen the University’s academic governance, with the aim of consolidating scientific excellence, innovation in teaching, and the international impact of research.
Sandro Castaldo, who takes over from Gaia Rubera at the helm of the Department, is a marketing scholar whose research interests have focused on various topics: trust and distrust in market contexts, relationships in distribution channels, consumer behavior, omnichannel and multichannel strategies, as well as loyalty dynamics and the application of artificial intelligence in marketing processes.
Giuseppe Savaré succeeds Emanuele Borgonovo and is a mathematician who has made significant contributions in the fields of mathematical analysis, partial differential equations, gradient flows, optimal transport, and variational methods for evolutionary problems and in metric spaces. He is the recipient of an ERC grant for his OPTiMiSE project, which aims to explore how geometry and variational principles can offer new insights into understanding the evolution of complex systems.
