Top PhD Students at Bocconi
Twenty-six PhD students from top schools of Economics & Finance and sixteen senior academics: these are the numbers of the XII Doctoral Meetings in International Trade and International Finance, the three day-conference (April 12th-14th) organized at Bocconi University by the network Research in International Economics and Finance (RIEF), constituted in 2004 with the aim of strengthening the scientific collaboration between the most eminent research centers of Europe.
Final year PhD students in Economics and Finance have been in the spotlight of the conference, since they have presented their own papers to the audience of senior academics in order to receive their feedback and, at the same time, get themselves known among the academic community. This year the keynote speakers have been Tommaso Monacelli (Department of Economics, Financial Markets and Unemployment) and Marcelo Olarreaga (Université de Genève, There Goes Gravity: How eBay Reduces Trade Costs).
The meeting has been a very useful opportunity for all the PhD students, whatever the year they attend: Carlo Altomonte (Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management), local organizer of the conference, says that "thanks to the comparison with their colleagues of the final year, the younger students have been able to gain an insight into the kind of quality and the level of analysis that will be expected when they present their own papers."
