Tommaso, in London to Prove He Has the Makings of a Leader
"What does leadership mean to you?", asked the application form for the Unilever Future Leaders' League, Unilever Group's global competition aimed at university students. "A real leader is like an expert cook", answered Tommaso Bressa, at the first year of the Master of Science in Marketing Management: "Like a cook is able to prepare a delicious dish with the ingredients he has at his disposal, so a real leader is able to discover the hidden talent in each member of his team and to push them to always do their best."
With this answer, Tommaso has earned access to the national finals and with the case study he presented in Rome last January he was able to pass them, qualifying for the International final in London.
The task of the individual case study that Tommaso and other students from all Italian Universities presented to the Unilever board was to plan a strategy which could convert the investments in sustainability taken by Knorr, among the most famous brands of the Group, into tangible advantages for final consumers, in order to increase the Company's return on investments.
Thanks to an individual case study focused on the areas of Trade Marketing and Research&Development, Tommaso was able to convince Unilever's top managers to be the perfect candidate to represent Italy at the London final, together with Micol Spizzichino, a student at the Università Luiss of Rome who was in Tommaso's team during the group assessment with three other Bocconi students: Silvia Faloni, Giulia Galbiati and Franco Granata.
"Our initiatives has the aim of identifying the most brilliant talents and to make the leaders of tomorrow aware of the necessity of a sustainable development", affirms Linda Langella, HR Leadership Development Specialist of Unilever Italy. "The Italian universities are gatherers and educators of precious human resources and we strongly believe that the most visionary companies have to invest in the training of young talents."
Today Tommaso is going to receive the communication of the case study that will unveil to him and the other participants the task of the strategy they will have to present to win the London final, which is going to take place in the Unilever headquarter next March. Ahead of the decisive challenge, at the beginning of March, Tommaso, Micol and another student from the University of Barcelona who is part of the Mediterranean team are flying to Rotterdam to attend a five day-training for team-building and to study their common strategy.
"Being selected for the London final was an important personal goal", Tommaso affirms. "Winning the final could act as the best springboard to achieve my dream of working for an International Company for which I have already developed a sense of belonging".
