The Strategic Role of HR Management: A Lesson Learnt on the Field
"The more you learn, the more you want to be operational", says Daniele Frisio, a student of the Master in organizzazione e personale (Master OP, a master in organization and HR management taught in Italian), explaining why he found the experience of the company visit to Sirti, the Italian company working in the network engineering sectors, on Wednesday, 6 May, so exciting. "We realized that HR management becomes an added value when it's conceived as a strategic partner. It turns out that in Sirti it happened also thanks to the work of graduates of Master OP".
The company visit took place as part of a day of meetings with human resources professionals including a roundtable at Bocconi in the morning that was attended by HR managers of Zucchetti, Whirlpool, Experis, and Key 2 People.
Many ideas emerged from the round table in the morning: the HR manager as a problem solver in the face of the challenges related to the development of business skills; the need to develop skills both technical and relational; the conception of indicators to measure and detect the impact of HR actions on the value generated by the company.
"Today, the HR role is more than ever interdependent on the broader business context in which the company operates, but also on the economic system of the whole Country", says Clemente Perrone, Sirti Head of HR. "Master OP provides the tools for a correct methodological approach combining the basics of know and know-how. Our partnership with Master OP is a fine chance for a useful exchange of views and an unique opportunity for our HR managers that are committed to business transformation".
Master OP is intended for graduates of any background and faculty. It's designed to train HR professionals willing to work in companies and consulting firms. The company visit is part of a training course that aims to involve the participants through partnerships with firms. "We aim to give students theories, methodologies and techniques, of course", says Gabriella Bagnato, director of the Master OP. "But we also want them to build the essential skills to operate in the HR function and support them in the construction of their professional identity".
The course lasts twelve months. The first part is held in a traditional way. Starting from May, students approach the professional world through a series of initiatives. "Company visits and roundtables", says Beatrice Manzoni, head of the relationship with companies "allow students to get to know the business environment. They meet the professionals that work in the HR position and those who work on the business field, and they understand that the two areas are closely linked".
