SaveTheBox, Virtual Storage Invented by Two Bocconians

, by Benedetta Ciotto, translated by Richard Greenslade
Created by Luigi Izzo and Salvatore Cutillo, a Bocconi graduate and a Bocconi student, the ondemand storage service allows users to free themselves from and catalogue surplus objects, saving space and time

"It all started when we had to leave on an exchange abroad, but we couldn't store all the things we had accumulated and brought to Milan since we're both off-campus students. We couldn't find a service that worked for us, so we thought we could invent one." That's how SaveTheBox, an on-demand storage service, was created, designed by Luigi Izzo, a Accounting, Financial Management and Control graduate and Salvatore Cutillo, a student in the Economic and Social Sciences program. The service allows users to reclaim the spaces at home or in the office occupied by objects they don't use on a daily basis, with just a few clicks. "SaveTheBox picks up the objects, stores them and returns them whenever and however the user wants," the two startuppers explain. "It's an online platform that allows users to access their virtual closet and view and catalogue individual objects, with the option of taking them back one object at a time."

The service also provides the option of photographing the individual objects in boxes and categorizing them, creating a sort of extension of the user's home or office. "This kind of service is usually possible with entire spaces and not individual boxes. SaveTheBox is innovating an existing market with a service that is dynamic and meets the needs of end-users, helping them save space and time," says Luigi and Salvatore.

The two young Bocconians' startup is incubated at Speed MI Up, an initiative by the Milan Chamber of Commerce and Bocconi University (with contributions from the City of Milan), which helps and supports new entrepreneurs develope their business ideas.
