Salvatore Accardo and His Violin at Bocconi
Bocconi continues its collaboration with the MiTo Music Festival, the yearly event devoted to great music across all genres in Milan and Turin. On Friday, 17 September at 9:00pm, in via Röntgen's Aula Magna, Bocconi will host the violin concert of Salvatore Accardo (admission: €15). The night's program will be all devoted to Schumann: Accardo will perform Sonata no. 2 for violin and piano op. 121, E flat major Quartet for violin, cello, viola and piano, E flat major Quintet for two violins, viola, cello and piano op. 44. He will be accompanied by Laura Gorna (violin), Francesco Fiore (viola), Rocco Filippini (cello), and Andrea Lucchesini (piano).
Salvatore Accardo's repertoire spans from Baroque to contemporary music. He regularly plays with major orchestras, alternating between violist and orchestra director. He has received numerous awards, including the Abbiati Prize. In 1982, President Sandro Pertini appointed him Knight of the Great Cross, the Italian Republic's highest honor. During his tour of East Asia in late 1996, the Beijing Conservatory nominated him as "Most Honorable Professor". In 1999, he was awarded "Commandeur dans l'ordre du mérit culturel", the highest honor that is granted by the Principality of Monaco. In 2002 he was given the "Una Vita per la Musica" prize. Accardo owns a Stradivari, a 1727 Hart ex Francescatti and a wondrous "George III" 1620 Maggini.
