Munich Has Four Aces Up Its Sleeve

, by Andrea Celauro, translated by Richard Greenslade
Social networking and career planning around a Stammtisch: Maurizio Cartesegna, BAA Chapter Leader, describes the activities of the group based in the Bavarian city

Events, networking, communication, and career development: these are the four aces of the Munich Chapter of the Bocconi Alumni Association (BAA). By congregating around a Stammtisch (the regulars' table at a bar, around which informal get-togethers are usually held in Germany), Maurizio Cartesegna and his colleagues plan for the upcoming activities for alumni. Maurizio, who got his Bocconi MBA in 2012 (full-time program), works as Senior Project Manager for the development of new products in the media industry. Although he started leading the chapter only a few weeks ago, he's been in Munich for two years already. Most of all, he has very clear ideas about how to develop activities for the about 150 Bocconi alumni living in the Bavarian capital.

"In addition to events and conferences," he explains, "we must focus on collaborating with the various actors at Bocconi and with local Italian institutions, such as the Consulate or the Institute of Italian Culture. On March 24, we organized a dinner speech on the role of insurance companies as institutional investors in Europe, in collaboration with the Italian Consul Filippo Scammacca del Murgo". Also, "we've been investing in communication efforts, with the Chapter's presence on major social networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn, and in the support of alumni's career development." On this front, they followed in streaming the networking seminars organized by alumna Laura Scaglione, and have worked in tandem with the University's Career Service, by taking part in the 'Bocconi Meets Munich' event. And career prospects are good in Munich, says Cartesegna: "Here the economic situation is not only better than in the rest of Europe, but than the rest of Germany."
