Magda Antonioli Represents Europe at the T20
Magda Antonioli, Associate Professor of Economics and Coordinator of the Master in Economics and Tourism, will represent the European Commission at the Buyeo T20 (South Korea) from 11 to 13 October.
Nominated special advisor for tourism to the Vice President of the Commission, Antonio Tajani, on 15 September, Antonioli will represent the Commissioner at the Tourism Summit that precedes and contributes to the preparing the G20, scheduled for 11-12 November in Seoul.
"The European Union is the most important tourist market in the world, with 40% of arrivals," says Antonioli. "Tourism makes up 5% of the GDP and a slightly higher percentage of the European job market. Since the Lisbon Treaty, when jurisdiction over stimulating tourism competitiveness was given to the European Union, the Commission has set not only this objective but also the objectives of ensuring sustainable development in tourism, improving the image of EU countries as top-quality destinations and maximizing the potential of policies and European financial tools aimed at developing tourism. Including tourism in the Europe 2020 strategy for growth document itself was a step in the right direction to increasing the value of tourism on the European and global agenda – the same as the aims of the T20."
