IGIER Calls on Students to Participate in Scientific Activity

, by Tomaso Eridani
Open until July 15 a call for up to 20 Bocconi students to enter the research centre as visiting students

To foster research interactions between students and faculty members, IGIER, the Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research, invites Bocconi students to join the research center starting from September 2011 as Visiting Students. Visiting Students are expected to actively participate in the center's scientific activities (e.g., conferences, and seminars) and to present a research paper in one of IGIER's brown bag workshops or reading groups. Each student will be assigned a mentor among the IGIER scholars, who will help the student develop a research project.

"We are launching a new initiative targeted to undergraduate and masters students at Bocconi because they are one of the university's most important assets," says Maristella Botticini, IGIER director. "As scholars and teachers, we want to make a gift to our talented students by making them discover how exciting it is to do academic research in one of IGIER's areas of interest - whether in micro theory or finance, in macroeconomics or political economy, in development or experimental economics, in industrial organization or international trade or labor, in demography or economic history."

IGIER will offer up to 20 Visiting Positions to students who in September 2011 will be enrolled in either the third year of a Bocconi undergraduate program or in the first/second year of a Bocconi master of science program.

Candidates should have a courses' grade average of at least 28/30 and never been subject to academic disciplinary procedure for inappropriate academic conduct.

Applications should be sent to visitingstudents-igier@unibocconi.it writing in the subject line: IGIER Visiting Student Initiative. The applications should provide the following information: curriculum vitae and contact information, updated grade transcripts and a brief (one-page at most) statement of purpose describing the student's research interests.

The application deadline is July 15 at 5 p.m.
