The Bocconi Alumni Association will hold for the first time in New York a full-day edition devoted to the analysis of the financial and economic dichotomy Europe-United States. It is scheduled for Friday, 20 June at the Union League Club in Manhattan and will allow Bocconi Alumni to meet with several prominent figures in the economic and academic realms.

The first edition of the Bocconi Alumni American Conference is part of a larger program through which the University and the Bocconi Alumni Association (BAA) plan to strengthen and enhance its network around the world, a community that now has 94,000 people (including over 2,000 in the Americas), many of whom hold leading positions within some of the major private and public organizations worldwide. In addition to events organized by its 54 chapters on 5 continents, the association is sponsoring a series of international conferences in America, Europe and Asia, which will bring the leaders of Bocconi and BAA into direct contact with their alumni each year. The first of these, for the Asian theater, was held in Singapore last November.

"Stimulating Economic Growth: America vs. Europe" is the title of the 2014 conference to be held in New York and that will host as participants and speakers, among others, Alberto Alesina (Harvard University), Giancarlo Bruno (World Economic Forum USA), Alessandra Casella (Columbia University), Alberto Festa (Bulgari USA), Bennett J. Goodman (Blackstone), Bruce Kasman (JP Morgan), Mario Monti (Bocconi President), Sergio Marchionne (CEO FCA Group), Toos N. Daruvala (McKinsey) Brian Leach (Citigroup), Richard D. Parsons (Providence Equity Partners), Doug Peterson (McGraw Hill), Mario Platero (Il Sole 24 Ore), Fabrizio Saccomanni, former Minister and Italian Bocconi Alumnus of the Year 2011.

The conference, which will include four sessions, will open with a panel devoted to the "Current State of the Economy", with a discussion of recent trends and future prospects in the Americas and Europe. The second panel, "Financing Growth", will analyze the role of regulated intermediaries and the shadow banking system, while the third panel will explore several "Case Studies of Successful Global Growth". The fourth and final panel will be centered on the theme "The United States and Europe - Current and future challenges. "

"The Bocconi Alumni American Conference represents a further step forward in the internationalization process of Università Bocconi," said the President of Bocconi, Mario Monti. "Our community of alumni in America is large and very active; we are therefore particularly happy to meet in New York and to involve them in this fine opportunity for discussion and reflection with distinguished speakers and guests."

"This Conference is both a great occasion for the Alumni community itself, with its leaders in New York and from the Bocconi Alumni Association in attendance, and an opportunity for analysis and comparison on the European and the American approach to creating stimulus to economic growth," added the Rector of Università Bocconi, Andrea Sironi.

"A global community of alumni offers real benefits to all graduates of Bocconi," concludes Pietro Guindani, President of the Bocconi Alumni Association. "The international conference in New York, organized thanks to the enthusiasm of an outstanding team of alumni who live in America, is a tangible sign of how this network is increasingly international and aware of the value of being part of Bocconi."
