The European Association for Population Studies Awards Arnstein Aassve
A jury of three members of the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) assigned the Dirk van de Kaa Award 2014 to Dondena scholar Arnstein Aassve.
Named after a co-founder of EAPS, the award honors outstanding achievements by an individual scholar in social demography and the interplay of population dynamics and social change. While candidates must be nominated by at least five members of EAPS residing in at least three different countries, Aassve's nomination was supported by 35 demographers from 11 countries.
Aassve was recognized for his work on young adults, family formation processes, and social policy effects with significant publications in influential journals not only of demography, but also economics, sociology, social policy and statistics. His work stands out for the application of advanced econometric and statistical models to the understanding and interpretation of demographic phenomena.
The jury, comprised of Guillaume Wunsch (Université Catholique de Louvain), Kathleen Kiernan (University of York) and Zsolt Spéder (Demographic Research Institute Budapest), also expressed the opinion that Aassve, thanks to his vibrant activity in the training of the next generation of demographers, will have longstanding influence in social demography.
