Diego Ubfal, New Assistant Professor from Los Angeles

From September 2012 Diego Ubfal becomes assistant professor of the Department of Economics. He comes from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he has just achieved his PhD in Economics with a dissertation on savings constraints, self-control problems and poverty.

His research interests concern development economics, applied microeconomics, applied econometrics and behavioral economics. Since last February he is associate researcher at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA). His last experimental research projects have investigated the access to savings for rural households and the impact of agricultural inputs in Uganda and Kenya.

A graduate from Universidad de Buenos Aires, Ubfal obtained a master in Economics first from Universidad de San Andrés, then from UCLA, from which he has received various awards, among which a Dissertation Year Fellowship, the Charles Young Award for outstanding research and teaching, the Best Summer Graduate Student Instructor Award, and a Teaching Assistant Award. He has also received a Fulbright Scholarship.

Ubfal has been a researcher for the Mexico Central Bank (2009), for the Inter-American Development Bank-OVE (2006-2007), for Fundación CENIT (2005-2006) and consultant for the United Nations Development Program (2005).
