In Denmark, a Country of Equal Opportunities

, by Davide Ripamonti, translated by Alex Foti
Copenhagen is a city where workplace equality is a reality for women, so Marica is in no hurry to return home

This is a country where a woman can really have her career without hitting any glass ceiling. For this reason, Marica Caposaldo, 28, Bocconi class of 2012 in Business Administration and Management, has no intention of leaving Denmark. Not to mention Copenhagen's high quality of life and the fact that her boyfriend lives here. "My career is still in the early stages," says Marica, a senior business consultant for life science since last August at Teradata, the US giant which is global leader in enterprise data warehousing , "and so it's all been in healthcare companies." The real change is that for the first time Marica works in a subsidiary, rather than at headquarters. "Prior to that assignment I worked as a Regional Business Analyst for Leo Pharma, a company selling psoriasis treatments, and then as global launch manager for Novo Nordisk, a company specializing in diabetes remedies, and since these are both Danish companies, this has allowed me to create a real network in the industry with regard to Denmark." All her jobs have demanded a financial focus, but with broad delegated powers, from performance analysis to relationships with authorities of various countries.

Marica, who is also here to earn a Master of Science in Innovation and Business Development, likes it in Denmark: "There's a good balance between work and personal life: you get to the office early at 8am, but at 16:30pm everybody leaves, so people have plenty of time to devote to their leisure activities, especially in the long summer days. At work, the environment is very relaxed, with little distance between the bosses and the rest of personnel, and women have the same opportunities as men." Now that she has joined a US-based multinational with branches all over the world, it is likely that new opportunities will open up for Marica in other countries as well. Are you ready to seize them? "My role now is in Denmark, I want to consolidate my position here first. In the future, foreign countries are an option, perhaps Dubai, a much sought after destination, or why not Italy? But moving is not among my priorities right now. For a woman, here it really is the best. "
