Bocconi University launches new PhD in Economics and Finance
Bocconi University has launched the new PhD programme in Economics and Finance, a 4-year full-time programme designed for highly-qualified and motivated students who wish to acquire world-class research skills. The programme is multidisciplinary in nature and students have the option to choose from a wide range of electives, and are also given mentorship and support throughout their time at Bocconi. All admitted students will be fully funded through a monthly salary.
"The PhD in Economics and Finance is a cutting edge international multidisciplinary programme," said Prof. Gianmarco Ottaviano, Director of the new programme. "Students first acquire a broad set of theoretical and methodological skills relevant to various fields in economics and finance. They then choose their field of specialization from a wide range of elective courses. Regular workshops and seminars complete their training. Classes are enriched by the interaction among students from all over the world, with backgrounds not only in economics and finance but also in engineering and statistics".
Exchange periods are organized within the European Doctoral Group in Economics (www.edge-page.net).Students also have the option of choosing fields from the other PhD programmes offered by the PhD School.
The third and fourth years are entirely dedicated to research, including attendance at regular seminars held by internationally renowned internal and external faculty. Students are expected to shape their research agenda through interaction with the faculty and their advisors. They will also acquire teaching expertise in their chosen fields. PhD classes are enriched by the interaction among students from all over the world, with backgrounds not only in economics and finance, but also other disciplines such as engineering and statistics.
International Faculty
Faculty members are highly prolific in terms of international publications and also active members of the international community. They contribute to the international debate by publishing in and serving on the editorial board of leading research journals (including: The American Economic Review; The European Economic Review; The Journal of Development Economics; The Journal of Monetary Economics; The Journal of Econometrics; Journal of Applied Econometrics; Journal of International Money and Finance and many others).

"Our PhD faculty includes top scholars worldwide, with publications in leading international journals in economics, management, statistics, finance, and legal studies. Our PhD programmes include world class courses and culminate in research theses publishable in international journals. Our students have been employed by leading universities, government institutions and other organizations."
Job Market and Placement
The PhD programme is designed to prepare and foster an academic career on the international job market. Other career opportunities include central banks, governments and international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, the OECD, the United Nations, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization. The tutors and career service of the PhD School are always available to assist candidates. "In the last few years our students have been hired by prestigious schools and organizations such as: Harvard University, Queen Mary College - London, Xiamen University - China ESSEC International Business School, The Bank of England, Bank of Italy, National Bank of New Zealand, and others," concluded Prof. Gianmarco Ottaviano, Director of the new PhD programme.
