The Value of Human Capital
The quality of an institution depends on the quality of its people and the quality of people encourages teamwork, which, in turn, leads to better results and makes the whole much greater than the sum of its parts.
The quality of people, worded in scientific terms as human capital, is the topic of ViaSarfatti25 February issue's cover story and the focus of many of the efforts I am producing as Bocconi's Rector. Because human capital needs to be identified, attracted, nurtured, motivated and integrated.
Besides important theoretical dissertations on this crucial topic, in this issue you will find examples of our human capital-related activities. From this month we welcome six new outstanding professors, while our Departments are assessing some of the most promising PhDs from all over the world as part of the recruitment of new assistant professors for the 2017-2018 academic year.
I'd like to add that, in a university, the years of study are the most intense moment of enrichment of one's human capital. Therefore, in these weeks, the selection tests that ensure the quality of students entering Bocconi are under way and in a few years we hope we can say goodbye to graduates as good as those that, in ViaSarfatti25's alumni pages, recall their graduation day. I wish you an enjoyable read.
