Tamas Vonyo, a Historian from London School of Economics
A re-investigation of the economic performance of East Central Europe under state socialism is the major research project currently developed by Tamás Vonyó, the Economic History assistant professor who's joining Bocconi's Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management in academic year 2014-2015.
"I conduct this research with several international collaborators", Vonyó says, "adopting a long-run perspective that focuses both on the historical origins and lasting legacies of the structural development of socialist economies. I am also leading an international network on the quantitative economic history of Eastern Europe".
Vonyó comes from the London School of Economics and Social Sciences (LSE), where he was lecturer since 2012 and assistant professor at the Economic History Department since 2013. He obtained his Phd at the University of Oxford and worked at Collegium Budapest Institute for Advanced Study and University of Groningen before joining LSE.
"Although I have not had previous experience within Italy", Vonyó comments, "the opportunity to work at Bocconi would hard not to accept. The community of scholars is rapidly internationalizing and the Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management, in particular, offers a dynamic working environment with plentiful options for interdisciplinary collaboration". Milan will also be fertile ground for Vonyó's passion for performing arts - and especially ballet.
