A Spanish Award for Outstanding Research in Computer Science
The SCIE-FBBVA Research Awards 2024 have honored exceptional contributions in computer science, with the aim of recognizing the innovative work of young Spanish researchers. Flor Miriam Plaza del Arco, postdoctoral researcher at Bocconi’s Department of Computing Sciences, was singled out with five other young scholars for her groundbreaking research in Natural Language Processing, focusing on emotion and sentiment analysis and the detection of hate crimes. Her work has had significant international impact and reinforces her as a notable contributor in advancing AI and computational linguistics.
These prestigious awards, jointly organized by the Spanish Society of Computer Science (SCIE) and the BBVA Foundation, are designed to celebrate scientific excellence and promote the visibility of emerging talents in the field. They underscore the commitment of both institutions to fostering research that pushes the boundaries of knowledge and has real-world applications. They are meant to reward “the creativity, originality and excellence of researchers in the early years of their profession and to encourage them to continue their research work”.
