The solidarity of Bocconi alumni in Japan

, by Tomaso Eridani
The project Italians for Tohoku, of which the Tokyo Alumni chapter is among the founders, has already raised 60.000 euro for the area hit by the tsunami

The response of Bocconi alumni in Tokyo after the tsunami which struck Japan 3 months ago was quick to come and the chapter was among the founders and promoters of the project 'Italians for Tohoku' to raise funds and bring help to the region most hit. And the alumni, during a recent fundraising dinner they organized, were happy to announce that the initiative has already raised 6.9 million Yen (around 60.000 euro).

In the initiative the chapter is flanked by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan, the Italian Culture Institute of Tokyo, the association Donne Italiane Tokyo and the MS Club Japan. Up to now, the group has managed to raise 6.9 million Yen (around 60.000 euro) to which goes added the donation of clothing and basic goods, taken on place even by the same alumni. For the donation of funds was identified the municipality of Rikuzentakata, a town in the prefecture of Iwate, which was devastated by the tidal wave of 11 March

The funds will be destined, in agreement with the local population, to three projects to reconstruct a temporary market, a school and commercial activities.

"The results of the fundraising so far has gone beyond our expectations," says Francesco Formiconi, area leader of the Bocconi alumni in Tokyo and honorary president of the 'Italians for Tohoku' project. "Japan is one of the greatest donors of foreign aid in cases of natural calamities and now it is time to give back to Japan some of the international solidarity they have always shown."
