A Place for Wannabe Photographers

, by Benedetta Ciotto
Bocconi Students for Photography Art is born. A students' association bringing all photography lovers together which adds itself to the various artistic associations operating inside the University. Recruiting from April 14

At Bocconi every form of art has its own students association: there is one for those interested in literature, one for those who love music, one for theater lovers, one dedicated to live performances, two for cinema addicts and, from this March, a brand new association that brings all photography lovers together, Bocconi Students for Photography Art. Caterina Micoloni, attending her second year in Economia Aziendale e Management, and Gabriele Rossi, a Law student, founded it together. "We met the first time two years ago, but only a couple of months ago we found out this common love for photography and we realized that it was the only art expression which hasn't given birth to a Bocconi students association yet, and so we did it".

The recruitment will start on April 14, "Who wants to become a member has to send us one shot he/she made with a short description and a personal presentation to our email address, as.bpa@unibocconi.it , or to our Facebook inbox", explains Caterina. "Experts already equipped with professional cameras as well as absolute beginners are welcome, the only thing that matters is the passion for this artistic expression and the desire to learn and experience together", says Gabriele. The association's activities will include workshops, meetings with photographers, photographic excursions and exhibitions of the members' works at the Openside space.

Gabriele got close to this form of art since the first years of high school, where he organized some photography courses for his classmates. The hobby has then turned into something more serious. "I have been taking pictures for six years, not really in a professional way, but I have occasionally worked as a photographer at some events and concerts and I also participated in some competitions", he says. Caterina has been an amateur photographer for four years. "As a first project we would like to involve Bocconi students in a collection of shots where they can tell something about themselves in a completely free way, reason why the face should not appear in the picture. In this way people will be able to tell whatever they want about themselves avoiding what can be guessed from facial expressions or simply from the look", says Caterina. "Soon we will reveal other details".
