Scholars and athletes get together at Bocconi on 25 February, at a conference that analyzes the impact of major sporting events on the city and country. CONI president Giovanni Malago will also be on hand

When a city is a candidate to host a major sporting event, the Olympics and the World Cup above all, endless controversy is unleashed about the pros and the cons. Costs that levitate, corruption and hardship for cities and citizens due to works that go on for years are the down side; high visibility and projects destined to remain as a legacy to the city and the country are some positive points. But not the only ones.
In the seminar "Roma 2024-Planning for Sustainability and Legacies", scheduled for 25 February, at 9:30am, in the Aula Magna at via Gobbi 5 on the Bocconi campus, the discussion will mainly deal with the positive aspects, which go well beyond the mere economic outlook.

"The impact that an event of this kind can bring," says Dino Ruta, head Sports Knowledge Center SDA Bocconi School of Management and co-author, with Richard Holt, of the Handbook of Sports and Legacy, presented on the occasion, "is also social, political, urban, and more. Human and social capital is trained and developed, new skills are born and a lot of jobs created, as happened for example during the Winter Olympics in Turin in 2006 ". The meeting will be attended by the CONI president Giovanni Malago, the director of the Gazzetta dello Sport, Andrea Monti, and athletes like Fiona May, Massimiliano Rosolino and Eleonora Giorgi, who will talk about their experiences both from a motivational point of view and in terms of preparations . The event will be opened by Bruno Pavesi, CEO of the University.

The event is organized by Bocconi Sport Campus and Campus Life and is part of the "Sport Leaders Seminar Series" cycle.
