, by Davide Ripamonti, translated by Jenna Walker
An exhibit on campus tells the story of the evolution of producing this staple food. Inauguration on Friday 11 September

Food security as a way to interpret the history of economics, industry and companies. A topic that is also central to the issues debated at Expo, this is the topic of the exhibit "Milan and Its Bread – Economy, Society and Culture." The event, promoted by the Bocconi Library, will be inaugurated on 11 September at 11am in the atrium of the Library, Via Gobbi 5, with Rector Andrea Sironi and Library Director Marisa Santarsiero.

Divided into three sections, the exhibit uses the books and documents from the Bocconi Library and other collections to depict the main aspects of the evolution of production, commerce and consumption of bread until the emergence of new food traditions. Especially during the year of the Expo, Milan is a paradigm for urban development connected to a procurement system that revolves around the interaction between the city and the countryside.

In addition, the exhibit focuses on the issue of food security, which should be faced not only through cooperation between science and agriculture, but also thanks to the conservation, endorsement and distribution of cultural food heritage.

The event is part of the "Universities for Expo 2015 – Scientific Committee of the City of Milan" and will end on 30 November.
