Milan and Italy, the Attraction of the Dolce Vita

, by Tomaso Eridani
For the circa 3,000 international students in Bocconi, living in Milan and having the chance to get to know Italy is a true added value. Some of them tell us here about their first year in Milan

The Bocconi campus is more and more international with about 1,550 foreign students enrolled and 1,440 incoming students each year in exchange from the more than 250 partner schools. Besides the value of the degree programs, and career opportunities that open up, the fact of studying in a campus in the center of Milan, living the city in full, and being able to discover Italy is one of the reasons that led them to choose Bocconi.
"This was my first real experience abroad and I was anxious but Milan has proved really multicultural and international and the people open and welcoming," says Dumitru Pisaniuc, from Moldova, who has completed the first year of his Bachelor of Science in International Economics and Finance in Bocconi. "The city has proved to be really friendly and welcoming," echoes Monika Dimitrova, from Bulgaria, MSc in Economics and Management of Innovation and Technology at Bocconi.
Another strong point of Milan are the cultural and entertainment activities it offers. "A perfect mix of easygoing lifestyle and lively atmosphere with lots of activities, great museums and big parks in the city center," says Sidar Cem Alagöz, Turkish, first year student in the Bachelor of Science in International Economics & Finance. "There have been great events during the year: Design Week, Fashion Week, the Piano Festival and many more," remembers Xinyi Liu, Chinese, of the China Master in International Management, the double degree program of Bocconi and Fudan University. "Milan is historic and beautiful and there are lots of possibilities to have fun. The 'dolce vita' concept is really true!" says Payam Amir Sheibani, from Iran, of the MSc in Economics and Management of Innovation and Technology.
Milan also opens doors to discover Italy. "I have visited Venice, Florence, Naples and Lake Como. Every city is like an open-air museum. I have travelled around so much my Italian classmates say I know Italy better than them!" says Monika Tarvydyte, from Lithuania, who has completed her first year of her Bachelor of Science in International Economics and Finance at Bocconi. "I discovered some great places near Milan: Como, Varenna, the lakes – so incredibly picturesque. But Rome proved to be the top!" says Lusine Avanesyan, 22-year old Russian, who has completed the first year of her MSc in Finance at Bocconi.
And for some, in fact, the move in Bocconi won't end their experience in Milan. "The best way to explain how much I have liked Milan is that in September I am starting a full-time job here and so my near future is in this city!" says Victoria Bager, Danish, who has just spent a year here as part of her double degree program at Copenhagen Business School. "After my studies I'd love to come back to Milan for a career in fashion or entertainment. Milan is the ideal city for the creative industries," concludes Iva Domljan, Croatian, here in exchange from the University of Florida.
