Letta: Music and Politics
Three meetings/concerts at Bocconi will explore the reciprocal influences between music composition and politics, mathematics and architecture.
"Musica che incontra..." is the title of the series of events organized by Bocconi and MITO Festival Settembre Musica, in collaboration with the Sentieri Selvaggi Ensemble. On the stage, music and intellectual reflections will take turns to intrigue and entertain the public. All events are free. The first event is "Music & Politics", on Thursday, June 10 at 6:30pm in Bocconi's Aula Magna in via Röntgen. It will see the participation of Enrico Letta, Democratic Party's #2 person and former government minister.
During this first meeting, the musicians of the Sentieri Selvaggi Ensemble will look at how the cold-war chill of US domestic politics was reflected in Michael Daugherty's music, and how, beyond the Iron Curtain, political intolerance force the great composer Arvo Pärt to conceal the religious origins of his works. It will also be possible to listen to Michael Nyman's String Quartet nr.3 and understand how it was inspired by Romania's uprising against Ceausescu. The discussion will be moderated by Francesca Colombo, art director of the MITO Festival. This is the evening's program:
Michael Daugherty, Paul Robeson told me
Arvo Pärt, Summa
Michael Nyman, String Quartet nr.3
Michael Daugherty, Sing Sing: J. Edgar Hoover
Sentieri Selvaggi Ensemble is composed by Paola Fre (flute), Mirco Ghirardini (clarinet), Andrea Rebaudengo (piano), Andrea Dulbecco (percussions), Piercarlo Sacco (violin), Aya Shimura (cello), Carlo Boccadoro (direction)
The series of events will continue on June 16, with "Music & Mathematics". Special guest will be philosopher and mathematician Giulio Giorello. Then on June 23, "Music & Architecture", will see top architect Stefano Boeri conclude the series by interacting with the public at Bocconi's Aula Magna.
