Students take center stage in the ecological transition thanks to a new Collaboration Agreement signed with Plastic Free Onlus, bringing the University into the “Universities for the Environment” network

Reducing plastic is no longer just a symbolic gesture—it’s a concrete challenge led by young people. Bocconi University and Plastic Free Onlus have joined forces by signing a collaboration agreement to fight plastic pollution and promote sustainable practices within the university community.

The agreement marks Bocconi’s official entry into the national Università per l’Ambiente (Universities for the Environment) network and introduces an important new feature: students

will have the opportunity to become official Plastic Free representatives within the university, personally contributing to environmental projects and initiatives.

“At Bocconi, sustainability is not a separate chapter, but a guiding principle behind every choice we make,” emphasizes Riccardo Taranto, Bocconi’s Managing Director. “From the campus to teaching, from research to community life, we work to reduce environmental impact and raise awareness. Our Sustainability Report highlights tangible results — such as reduced CO₂ emissions, energy-efficient buildings, and a commitment to sustainable mobility — as well as a long-term vision that integrates social responsibility and innovation. The collaboration with Plastic Free strengthens this direction, engaging our students directly in actions that turn sustainability values into everyday behavior.”

“We strongly believe in the role of younger generations as drivers of change,” says Luca De Gaetano, President of Plastic Free Onlus, “and we are thrilled to begin this collaboration with such a prestigious institution as Bocconi University. Offering students the chance to become official representatives of the association is a significant step forward in strengthening a university network that is already active, aware, and leading the ecological transition.”

With this agreement, sustainability becomes part of everyday life, both on and off campus - a step that calls on the entire Bocconi community to do its part.
