On 26-28 June, with the scientific coordination of Federico Lega, about costs and quality of public systems

The quality of public healthcare can't be taken for granted in times of budget cuts. At the beginning of this decade the growth of public health expenditure has been reversed, with countries already hit by recession taking the lead. What Healthcare Can We Afford? Better, Quicker, Lower Cost is the topic of the European Health Management Association (EHMA) 2013 annual conference, to be hold at Bocconi on 26-28 June, with the scientific coordination of Federico Lega (Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management). Bocconi will host nearly 400 scholars and practitioners. The program includes both scholarly and hands-on sessions.

"Now, more than ever", the conference presentation states, "Europe's leading academics, practitioners, policy makers and managers need to be creative, innovative and cooperative in order to explore how together they can take responsibility for creating sustainable health systems for now, and face the challenges of tomorrow".

The keynote speakers will be Paola Testori Coggi, Director General, DG SANCO, European Commission, Isabelle Durand-Zaleski, professor of public health, University of Paris XII and Stanford University, Boaz Ronen, operations management scholar and organizational constraints theory author, and Luigi Marroni, Tuscany Regional Ministry for Right to Health.

"Bocconi is going to host the most fitting edition of the EHMA annual conference", Lega says, "that is the one focused on management topics".

EHMA is a membership organisation that aims to build the capacity and raise the quality of health management in Europe creating a network of scholars, policy makers and managers. EHMA has 170 members from 30 countries, ranging from hospitals to universities, from ministries of health to primary care providers, from management education schools to consultancies.
