The Dresser, on Stage at Bocconi

The new English-language theater group will perform on Friday 31 May at 9pm in the Aula Magna at Via Gobbi

Twelve students are putting together a show. On Friday 31 May, the Aula Magna at Via Gobbi will be the stage for a new performance by the English-language theater group of the Bocconi Art, Culture, Theater and Music Association. The play will be The Dresser, by Ronald Harwood.

"I read at least 20 different plays before finding the right one for this season," says Elisa Tirindelli, a student in her third year of the Bachelor in International Economics, Management and Finance who founded the theater group in English last year. "The text of The Dresser seems like it was made to order: I've always liked the theater and especially the behind-the-scenes action and I've wanted to be a director since I was a little girl."

And Ronald Harwood's play tells the story of what happens behind the scenes of Shakespeare's King Lear.

Sir is an old Shakespearian actor who is admitted to the hospital after a nervous breakdown, and therefore is not allowed to play King Lear as scheduled. His wife, Her Ladyship, and the stage manager, Madge, are about to cancel the show despite opposition from Norman, when suddenly Sir returns from the hospital saying that he has discharged himself and wants to perform.

The chaotic race against time begins for Norman, the dresser, to be able to send Sir on stage in time, with all the unforeseen events and comical situations related to the situation that reveals the deep love everyone has for Sir and, at the same time, Sir's immense egotism being only in love with himself.

7 student actors will take the stage at Via Gobbi, 6 of whom have non-Italian passports from Canada, Eastern Europe and China, in addition to one Italian student, Rossella Tortorella, who has also always been passionate about theater. "I had never acted before coming to Bocconi," says Rossella, who will play Madge. "I'm pretty shy, but when I get on stage I change. It's been therapeutic because I'm more confident and it also allows me to be in an international environment even outside the classroom."

The play will be in English. Admission is free but seats are limited.
