Dear First Years, Here's Some Advice. Our Top Ten

September marks the beginning of the Bocconi experience for many students. Young graduates look back and give some tips on how to make the most of university

They had different tracks, they're from different Italian regions and different countries, they currently work in a variety of industries. But they agree on one thing: university should be experienced to the max, taking advantage of all available opportunities and focusing not just on academics, but also student associations and extracurricular activities. They are all recent Bocconi graduates who wore their cap and gown in the past three years. We asked them to give a few tips to anyone getting ready to start their university experience. Here's their advice.

  1. "Take advantage of all the opportunities to go abroad offered by the university," Gianluca Basciu, Master of Science in Economics and Management in Art, Culture, Media and Entertainment.
  2. "Get involved in Bocconi TV, it taught me time management skills," Giada Brugnaro, Master of Science in Management.
  3. "Get to know the world of Alumni, it's a useful experience for learning interpersonal skills," Tudor Carstoiu, Master of Science in Economics and Management of Innovation and Technology.
  4. "Put yourself to the test with activities that are completely different from what you're studying," Andrea Carucci, Master of Science in Management.
  5. "Focus on more than superficial knowledge and talk to your professors. Law faculty are professionals and attorneys in addition to being professors, and it's very useful," Tabita Costantino, Integrated Master of Arts in Law.
  6. "Decide what you want to do with your life as soon as possible. Finance, for example, is a demanding course, it takes motivation. But it's not just about the stock market, as many people think," Andrea Denaro, Master of Science in Finance.
  7. "Put a lot of passion into what you do, this is what will allow you to experience university to the fullest," Salomè Mikautadze, Master of Science in Marketing.
  8. "Don't be afraid to take on a challenge, to put yourself to the test, whenever you can," Giorgia Rauso, Master of Science in Economics and Management of Government and International Organizations.
  9. Diego Tartaglia, Master of Science in Marketing Management: "Participate in group projects. They're demanding and take up a lot of time, but are an added value. This will be clear when you need to create a business plan or marketing campaigns after graduation."
