Ten students enrolled in their second year of a Bocconi Master of Science program spent an entire week, from 29 May to 4 June, in New York, as part of an In-Company Training program. The Bocconi initiative is organized by the Career Service to facilitate access to the job market.

The New York program began through a collaboration with Ernst&Young Italia and allowed participants to go outside Europe for the first time, inaugurating a location that has been added to the consolidated areas in Italy and Europe.

The participants were selected from among the many who applied, submitting their CVs, a cover letter and interviews. During the day they were in close contact with managers from consultancy companies, to learn about their secrets and behavior, and fully participating in meetings and presentations.

Before leaving, however, students also participated in a business case with the topic "Restructuring Debt," which they then presented to Ernst&Young in New York.

"It was hard work, but we feel lucky to have had this opportunity. Living amongst top managers at multinational companies for an entire week and understanding from them how to act, what to expect from the job market and what prerequisites can make the difference when making decisions is truly priceless," say Chiara Costanzo, Vienda Giacomelli and Giulia Galimberti, representing the entire group. "We also lived in New York for 10 days not as tourists, but as citizens of the Big Apple helped us see a different city from the one majority of us have experienced at other times."

In addition to Ernst&Young, the group also visited other companies and organizations: the United Nations, Granito Advisory, Viacom, Poltrona Frau, Giorgio Fedon, Oracle, the US-Italy Chamber of Commerce, Seletti, Export Usa, Enit-Agenzia nazionale per il turismo.

"It's an experience that we would recommend to everyone," the students say. "It was during exam sessions and that discouraged us, but we actually got back even more determined to work hard and overcome any obstacle."

In addition to Chiara, Vienda and Giulia the other students who travelled to New York were Stefano Enrico Airoldi, Elisa Boscolo Sesillo, Julia Gasser, Marina Golinelli, Jacopo Setti, Gabriele Tundo and Matteo Zampini.
