The City of Tomorrow Comes to Bocconi
New York, Miami, Mexico City, Milan, Dubai, Hong Kong. The metropolises of the future in constant flux are the subject of the third photography event curated by the MIA Photo Fair, in collaboration with BAG-Bocconi Art Gallery. The photos are the work of Roberto Polillo, who is known for his portraits of the most famous jazz musicians of the '60s. The 14 photographs, which will be on display starting on 27 February in the foyer of the Sala Ristorante at Via Sarfatti 25 (basement floor), are based on the idea of representing not different cities, but rather one large city: a contemporary city looking towards the future.
Through the buildings featured, Future City aims to represent the tensions characterizing contemporary man's urban imagination and to discover the symbols of the city of tomorrow. Expressing the concept of "transformation," Polillo uses the technique of ICM – Intentional Camera Movement. This shooting method requires long exposure times and moving the camera during the shot, resulting in out-of-focus images that become almost painterly representations of reality in post-production. The photographs, in large and very large formats, are accompanied by quotations by famous architects and writers, as food for thought for students and the general public.
The exhibit will be available until 11 September, Mondays through Fridays, from 9am to 8pm, and Saturdays, from 10am to 1pm.
