City Managers Exchange Views at Bocconi
In 2025, 75% of the world's population will live in huge metropolitan areas (and it is estimated that at least 17 of these will be in the East). This means that the management of the city is no longer just a local challenge, but it will increasingly become a global challenge: city governments will have to make their towns attractive and influential on economic and cultural trends. But above all, the will need to be open, connected and integrated with their component parts. This issue will be discussed, in a meeting organized by SDA Bocconi, 25 February at 9:30am (Aula Magna, via Gobbi 5), by managers and administrators of some of the most important international cities. The event, co-organized by City of Milan and SDA Bocconi School of Management, is held as part of B4Gov, Bocconi for Government Week of February 23 to 28.
Among them, along with senior White House advisor for open data, Erie Meyer, who will share his experience of working on Obama's digital team, will be Fernando Benegas, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Modernization of Buenos Aires, Nontokozo Radebe, group head for Strategy, Policy Coordination and Relations of the city administration of Johannesburg, Maurizio Baruffi, Chief of Cabinet of the City of Milan, and Giuseppe Tomarchio, general manager of the City of Milan. Moderated by journalist from Nòva, Luca De Biase, the city managers will compare their experiences and discuss strategies for the competitiveness of their territories.
Greta Nasi, director of the Public Management and Policy area of SDA Bocconi, explains in the video below the challenges facing city governments and what management solutions can be put in place.
