Activism gets to the heart of matter of the newly founded Bocconi Chinese Students Association

Bocconi has entertained strong relationships and exchanges with China for some time. It was in the wake of these activities that a student association, the Bocconi Chinese Students Association, was founded before the summer holiday. It aims to contribute to promoting understanding of Chinese culture and create a community of everyone on campus interested in China.

"The idea started when Giorgio and I did an exchange at the University of California and we saw all the activism of the Berkeley Chinese Students Association, which was founded way back in 1951," explains Luca Bosisio, Vice President of the association. "The association will be based on cultural issues and not connected only to ethnic origins. It's open to anyone interested in China."

In its mission, the association focuses on being a bridge between Italy and China, creating a point of reference for Chinese students at Bocconi. They aim to participate in the growing interest towards China by creating a network of people to facilitate Italy-China relations.

The association is currently beginning to get the word out to students before activating initiatives such as round table discussions and events. In the meantime, there is a strong partnership with the Berkeley Chinese Students Association.

"Chinese students, like many international students at Bocconi, tend to make groups of just Chinese students. It is instead important to create contacts with other students to start debate and create a true meeting point between Chinese and Italian culture within the Bocconi community," explains Giorgio Chen, President. "It's important for other students at Bocconi to get to know China through real first-hand accounts and only through the eyes of the media."
