Antonio Borges, 63, one of the leading players in Università Bocconi's internationalization process, passed away on Sunday, 25 August 2013.

A Portuguese economist, Borges had been Vice Governor of the Banco de Portugal and Director of the European Department of the International Monetary Fund. He'd also been an advisor to the United States Department of the Treasury, the OECD, the European Union and the Portuguese government.

When he joined Università Bocconi's board in 2004, he brought to Milan all the international academic experience developed as Dean of INSEAD, the business school based in Fontainebleau, Paris. Since then, Borges also joined the board's Executive Committee and was appointed Chairman of the International Advisory Council.

"The contribution Professor Borges was able to give in these years to our university, especially to the international development," Bocconi's Rector, Andrea Sironi, wrote when communicating the news to the University's community, "was always of the highest level both on a cultural and academic level and on a human and relational level. For all of us and Bocconi the passing away of Professor Borges represents a great human and professional loss."
