Carlo de Stefano, a graduate of the Bocconi School of Law, received the Daniele Padovani award from the Italian Society of International Law (SIDI) for best graduation thesis presented in the 2010-2011 academic year with a focus on private and procedural international law. The recognition was assigned during the XVII SIDI Convention "The European Union twenty years after Maastricht: Towards new rules", held on 31 May in Genoa: the winner received a €3,000 prize as well as the possibility to complete a 3-month paid internship at one of the legal offices of DLA Piper Italy.

The Commission, made up of Massimo Benedettelli (Università di Bari), Alessandra Pietrobon (Università di Padova) and Stefano Modenesi, gave the award to de Stefano's thesis Jurisdictional Immunity of Foreign States and Commercial Transactions, with thesis advisor Giorgio Sacerdoti. The joint winner of the award was Tullio Raymundo Treves from the Università degli Studi di Milano (Arbitration and EC Regulation 44/2001).

"I'm very happy about this award and the welcome I received from SIDI," said de Stefano, who thanked his Professors Giorgio Sacerdoti and Anna de Luca. A founder of the Bocconi Student International Law Society (BILS) in 2010, de Stefano is currently working on an apprenticeship in the field of arbitration and is getting ready to complete the PhD in International Law and Economics at Bocconi. He added, "I hope that this award is an encouragement for future graduates."
