Developing a comprehensive theory of modern artificial intelligence is essential for advancing science, technology, and society. From a scientific perspective, it means understanding the emergent properties of information processing through the collective behavior of large assemblies of simple units (artificial neurons). This lecture will discuss how ideas borrowed from physics can help face this major challenge, which is also central to studying how the brain solves computational problems.
