Researchers at Work on Ideas for Publication in AMR
On April 17, the AMR Idea Development Workshop took place, an initiative of the Academy of Management co-organized by the Department of Management and Technology and dedicated to the development of theoretical articles for the Academy of Management Review (AMR), one of the world’s most prestigious journals in the field of management studies.
The event brought together PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career scholars from several European countries, with the aim of strengthening their ability to develop rigorous and publishable theoretical contributions. Members of the AMR editorial team explained what distinguishes an effective theoretical paper, explicitly analyzing the most common reasons for rejection and recurring weaknesses in submitted manuscripts.
This format reflects the rationale of so-called journal workshops, designed not only as informational sessions but as genuine mentoring spaces, where direct interaction with editors becomes an integral part of the research development process.
It was an intensive yet highly collaborative experience, as explained by Alessandro Iorio, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management and Technology and one of the event’s co-organizers. Particularly valuable was the open discussion of ideas still “in the making,” as the quality of feedback and direct access to editors represent a rare opportunity in the academic journey.
The Milan event confirms the growing importance of these co-development spaces within the international academic community: contexts in which scientific knowledge is not only evaluated, but collectively constructed, starting from ideas.
