Palermo's Objective Is to Focus on the Territory
Private equity, startups, as well as meetings on entrepreneurship and several projects focusing on the Expo. In the shadows of Mount Pellegrino, the Palermo Area of the BAA is reinforcing its ties to the Bocconi community, focusing on one main objective: understanding what the territory needs. "We want to be a proactive force, able to mobilize the best energy of those people who have grown professionally and culturally in the Bocconi community," explains Area Leader Dario Marino, explaining the program for 2015: "In order to engage in the issues related to Expo2015, the idea is to explore meetings on food and wine."
During 2014, on the other hand, there was a focus on the local area and projects took on the form of four events, all with teams and looking at various topic areas. The first event was a conference on private equity organized in October with Bocconi faculty member Valter Conca and in collaboration with the BAA Private Equity Topic Group. The second was participation in organizing the 2014 edition of Start Up weekend, which also included a speech by SDA Bocconi faculty member Mykkel Draebye. The third was a partnership in the Sementor initiative, a free event on entrepreneurship organized by the Neu (us) coworking association, a series (this was the fifth edition) during which various alumni acted as mentors. "During the third week of November, there were also two events on company networks, created with the Region of Sicily and in collaboration with the BAA Entrepreneurship Topic Group." For the Palermo group, the direction to take is clear: "We want to create a community of alumni that contributes with projects, activities and studies of the development and enhancement of society," says Marino.
