The Selection Committee of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory bases its choices on scientific excellence, originality, and leadership

Massimo Morelli, Full Professor at Bocconi's Department of Social and Political Sciences, has been elected Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory (SAET), an international society whose purpose is to advance knowledge in theoretical economics and to facilitate communication among researchers in economics, mathematics, game theory, or any other field which is potentially useful to economic theory.

Fellows are chosen by a 18-member committee chaired by Yale University's Larry Samuelson. They «are selected for their scientific excellence, originality, and leadership; high ethical standards; and scholarly and creative achievement. The contributions of fellows may exist in many areas of theoretical economics, including pure and applied research, and government service. The primary qualification for fellowship is to have substantially advanced economic theory», SAET's website states. In 2018 three scholars made it to fellowship.

«Receiving such a mark of esteem from the community of theoretical economists is a source of pride», says Prof. Morelli, «and it's a harbinger of the increasing relevance of the application of economic theory to other disciplines».
